I only needed one anymore to cool my place down. Although it’s not a normal way to do, it is a simple way to do it that it really works, and it also helps being that is reflective to make the room brighter.

    Alex, if you 'had' to replace the centrifugal with a Positive Displacement (Such as a Scroll-type supercharger, rotary lobe, rotary vane), and your goal was just a little 7-8 psi boost on-demand for a daily driver. Something like a 3.0 V6, and only up to 4000 rpm (literally 1/3 of the cfm's you've been hitting). What would you go with? Notice I said scroll-type and not twin-scroll. I'm talking Positive Displacement superchargers that produce an almost fixed pressure output at any RPM. I just want something for on-ramps, 0-50. I'll be using a diverter valve, that lets the car run NA or Boost, by opening/closing the diverter valve at the throttle body (sealing off the factory air piping from air filter to intake, preventing boost escape...). So the car can run NA most of the time without sucking air thru the supercharger (it wouldn't be able to thru a pos. disp. pump). It looks like they've got some really cool scroll-type, lower rotor mass, 88% isentropic efficiency...

    Most mini splits use a variable frequency drive to power the compressor. These run off DC and are a special type of inverter..a variable frequency inverter. Some mini splits use AC for other components, nice to see native DC units are made for solar. If you covered the roof with PV, the heat gain reduction would more than offset. An awning over the rollup doors would also help. Love your dog! Be careful with the PVA, 260 volts DC has special hazards. I needed to run a plasma torch off 208 volt 3 phase power but thr torch is 240 volt single phase but INVERTER. Tracing the circuitry, the torch first converts the AC to DC so i took 15 amps of 208 3 phase and rectified it to DC through a 6 diode bridge. This worked perfectly, as long as i used the 3 pole 15 amp breaker to turn the unit on and off. DC is hard on switches as it loves to arc.

    I can run an eg4 18kpv with 4 panels and run 240volt appliances. Why do you need 7?

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX 2 дня назад

      Power is power. If you have four panels and each panel is a 400 watt panel then you only have 1600 watts of power. You could run this AC off of 1600 Watts but it would never hit full speed. And adding an inverter like the 18K (which I also bought BTW), just adds another point of loss in the efficiency chain. Seven panels can insure that the AC runs at full power from the panels for longer. If you fed those same seven panels into the inverter, and then ran the AC off the 240 volt outlet of the inverter, then you're incurring additional losses going through the mppt and the inverter. Obviously, the AC has its own mppt, but very likely does not have an inverter inside of it and whatever electronics package is in it is optimized for the AC so I'm confident in saying it's more efficient.

    What is your insulation? And how much reserve is needed to run at night? Or should I ask how many panels needed ( and batteries ) to run continuous off grid ?

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX 2 дня назад

      The insulation in the building is r10 in the walls and the ceiling. To answer the other part of your question, the key is to size the air conditioning properly to the space (which this obviously isn't since I just wanted to test it) so the AC doesn't run at full power all the time. Ideally, you want the AC to run at about half load once the space is cooled down which in this case is about 1,000 watts. So if you get 8 hours of solar running a day, you need enough battery capacity to put out 1,000 Watts for the remaining 16 hours. In other words, 16 kilowatt hours worth of battery capacity minimum. If the AC has to run full speed all the time, then that's 2,000 watts, and if you have the same 8 hours of solar running during the day but need to run it full speed through the night for 16 hours, then you would need 32 KW of battery power. I just want to add the following caveat: usually you would need more air conditioning power during the day because of solar gain then you would at night. In other words because the sun is out, the air conditioner has to work harder. And also usually it's cooler at night anyway.

    • @dannymccraw4841

      @@AlexLTDLX ha ya except in Texas it goes from 110 to 103 at night! I have 1800 sqft home, uses 1.5 tons of ac/heat, it’s foamed , as a contractor , I fully understand the need for insulation to combat the need for more required btu’s. I’m a big fan of foam but I’m always concerned for off gassing . As I’m looking for alternate building practices for my next forever home, and I’d like to be as off grid as possible, not a huge fan of solar , cost vs reward isn’t all that great, but not much else to combine with wind, unless you live near constant moving water.

    We run one of those in a 1 Ton variety at our off-grid cabin. We don't use the direct solar, but run it off our inverter/charger which keeps the outlets powered along with keeping the batteries charged up. It's only our weekend playhouse, but our area has extremely expensive power at $0.48 off peak, so it made sense to keep the cabin completely off-grid. We can easily maintain 72F at 115F ambient air. Such a luxury for a 100% off-grid set-up. Our well up at our play property is also solar.

I got the idea in Desert Shield watching Ammo store Mark 84s on wooden cribbing. If wood is good for multiple 2000lb bombs it's worth considering. I buy a long 4x4 or 6x6 now and then (I have many objects needing cribbing), cut it to ~18" lengths and drill for pull ropes like an aircraft chock.
